To grow the programme we've delivered through our work with The Family Centre, Orbis Education, Knighton Primary and with Knighton Library; we are launching a Growing Edibles Network: Growing Edibles for Everyone in Knighton (GEEK) Network. Our network will connect people growing edibles in our local area, through facilitating regular meetings. We aim to develop inclusive spaces where growing edibles feels accessible for everyone in our community.
We are currently documenting our garden weekly, to show the growth of the garden through the seasons, and to document our activities throughout the year. Please get in touch with our Garden Coordinator (Tom), if you wish to be part of our team of voluntary photographers, or you have photographs of our garden to share: gardencoordinator@knightoncomm.wales
Our Garden Coordinator and garden volunteers have worked with The Family Centre team: to include garden based activities for children and young families; we look forward to growing more edibles, and exploring the outdoors, in the seasons to come...
Our Garden Coordinator (Tom) delivered an assembly on 'where our food comes from', looking at journeys and mileage food in our local supermarket had made; followed by a seed planting workshop with each class; working towards 0 mileage by growing our own edibles at Knighton School.
In collaboration with Knighton Library we ran a competition for under 18's to grow edible plants. These plants entered a competition, where all participants whom signed up to the scheme received certificates and prizes Our produce alongside photos from our award ceremony were displayed as part of the Knighton Carnival.
