“DIRTY OIL”
A film about the Canadian Tar Sands
by Leslie Iwerks

Wednesday February 11th 7.30pm

at the Community Centre Bar

These days the bulk of Americas oil supply comes not from the MiddleEast but from tranquil Canada – and specifically from the aboriginallands of northern Alberta. Leslie Iwerkss impassioned and exhaustivedocumentary examines the effects of this tar-sand exploration. “Youcant have the worlds largest energy project in your backyard withoutmessing up the backyard,” shrugs one local activist. Iwerkss cameraleads us on a tour of the smokestacks, churned earth and poisonedstreams. In under a decade, a slice of forest the size of Florida hasbeen quietly converted into moonscape.
