Next week, Knighton will play host to a group of young people from Palestine. Fourteenmen and women, whose ages range from 13 to 24 and who live in the West Bank or Gaza, will arrive on Friday 16th August for a 6-day visit. Some will stay with local people while others will camp out.
Social events, games, music workshops at the Community Centre, walks and other activities have been planned and the organisers are encouraging local young people to come along, join in, and make new friends. The Palestinians will find out about life in the Welsh Marches and they will tell of their life in Palestine today.
On Tuesday 20th August there will be a social evening, open to all, from 7.00 pm onwards in the Reynolds Room at the Community Centre. This will include music, singing and dancing featuring the Teme Valley Ceilidh Band, the Radnor Improvisors and singer Dr. Abdullah Abu Helal. The young people themselves will also perform a musical presentation.
The visitors leave on Wednesday 21st and will visit Worcester, Oxford, Northampton and London before returning home. Local people who want to help and/or socialise with the visitors can contact Camilla on 01547 520929 for further information.
