The bar at the Community Centre is the venue for two contrasting but equally interesting nights of live acoustic music in coming weeks.First of all, on April 1st, we welcome Aberystwyth-based trio Brenig who offer traditional and contemporary songs from the heart of Wales, as well as tunes composed by band member Daniel Laws.Certainly much of the evenings material will be taken from the bands first CD collection “The Caron Trail”.Entry is £7 and the show is supported by the Welsh Arts Councils Night Out scheme.
On April 10th, from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, we have a night of Southern US song-duets and soaring fiddle, guitar, mandolin and banjo tunes, courtesy of husband and wife duo Erynn Marshall and Carl Jones. Both are highly regarded performers with decades of experience touring the USA, Canada and Europe and a number of CDs available. One recent release was summed up by one reviewer as follows: “The couple both honor oldtime music and find their own distinctive place within it…..This is very much Marshall &amp Jones, not to be mistaken for anyone or anything else. More than ordinarily gifted, they find new truths in a musical style already notably devoid of falsehoods. You don’t hear something like this that often, and if I were you, I wouldn’t let it get past you”.Doors open 7.30pm.
