JOB DESCRIPTION 

POSITION: Youth and Children’s Services Coordinator Knighton Family Centre and Youth Drop-In Sessions 

  • Core hours: 12 hours per week, split between the two services, as agreed with the Community Centre Management Committee
  • School term-time, weekly. 
  • School Holidays, individual sessions, as required. Dates TBC 
  • Fixed term, commencing 16/09/2024 until 30/12/2024 subject to satisfactory references and DBS
  • Applications for additional hours (pro rata) to source and assist in grant funding applications, fundraising schemes etc will be considered favourably by the Management Committee

LOCATION/ WORK BASE: Knighton and District Community Centre 

Bowling Green Lane, Knighton, Powys LD7 1DR 

GRADE: £15.00 / hour

ACCOUNTABLE TO: KDCC Management Committee Nominated Lead  

ACCOUNTABLE FOR: KDCC Family Centre Playworkers and Volunteers KDCC Youth Drop-In Staff and Volunteers 

PURPOSE OF POST

FAMILY CENTRE: To support Playworkers and Volunteers in delivering the service. 

The Family Centre is held once a week (in term time) on Monday mornings. School  holiday sessions by arrangement.  

The sessions give pre-school children and their parents / carers the opportunity to meet  and share experiences in an established safe environment. A light lunch is provided. 

YOUTH DROP-IN: To support Staff and Volunteers in delivering the service 

The Youth Drop-In sessions are held once a week (in term time) on Wednesday  evenings. School holiday sessions by arrangement. 

These supervised evening sessions provide a space for young people (11 – 16 yrs) from  Knighton and the locality to meet and socialise outside a formal school environment.  Various recreational and other activities are provided

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:  

Programme planning 

1:1 or group supervision;  

liaison with other organisations;  

liaising with the Management Committee in identifying and preparing appropriate grant  applications, fundraising initiatives etc. in order that the contract may be extended beyond December 2024 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To meet regularly with staff and plan and monitor activity, ensuring that there is a clear  advance programme. 
  • Provide supervision for staff and volunteers and identify and promote training  opportunities. 
  • Have responsibility for the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young  people and/or vulnerable adults in order to provide a safe environment.  
  • To ensure that project staff deliver services safely, that all risk assessments are  prepared and adopted. 
  • To maintain appropriate boundaries with young people and to respect confidentiality. 
  • Provide a communication channel with the Management Committee and Community  Centre staff 
  • Ensure that all required reports are prepared, and records are kept up to date To co-operate with the Employer and follow Health and Safety advice and instructions Monitor the budget and assess expenditure.

  • This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and has a  requirement for an Enhanced DBS Check, this position is classed as regulated activity  under the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of  Freedoms Act 2012 and will be subject to a check to the list of those people barred from working with children
