Flicks in the Sticks
Arts Alive and Flicks in the Sticks is a charity set up to enrich rural communities and the lives of those living within them by giving everyone the opportunity to participate in high quality film and live events. As part of this, Knighton Flicks in the Sticks shows a wide range of films, from the latest blockbusters to independent and arthouse releases. We are also a venue for the annual Borderlines Film Festival. Details of the current programme are shown below. All films are shown in the main hall of the Comm which has a capacity of just 80 seats, creating a cozy and communal viewing experience. The bar is open from 7pm and during the intervals when hot drinks are also available.

The volunteers who run the cinema are always on hand to offer a warm welcome and to help create a friendly and inclusive environment. The cinema is also available for hire by local schools and community groups, who often use it for educational screenings and events.

    Featuring a terrific cast, with newcomers Antonio Banderas and Olivia Colman joining Ben Whishaw, Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters and more, Paddington in Peru promises to be another funny, touching and action-packed instalment in this much-loved film series.

    In August of 1949, Life Magazine ran a banner headline: Jackson Pollock: Is he the greatest living painter in the United States? The film is a look back into the life of an extraordinary man, a man who has fittingly been called an artist dedicated to concealment, a celebrity who nobody knew. As he struggled with self-doubt, engaging in a lonely tug-of-war between needing to express himself and wanting to shut the world out, Pollock began a downward spiral.

  • 11 April - Firebrand (15) 120 mins

    Starring: Alicia Vikander, Jude Law, Eddie Marsan, Sam Riley, Simon Russell Beale
    Oscar winner Alicia Vikander and nominee Jude Law star in a revisionist royal portrait of the last wife of Henry VIII. In a blood-soaked island kingdom, accomplished Katherine Parr (Vikander) becomes the sixth wife of King Henry VIII (Law) at great personal risk – all her predecessors are vanquished or dead – and when Henry leaves her to rule during his absence overseas, he lays out a dangerous path for her. Suspected of sympathy to radical Protestants, Katherine comes under increasing scrutiny from Henry on his return, and must unleash her own scheme for survival. Adapted from Elizabeth Fremantle’s novel The Queen’s Gambit, Karim Aïnouz’s lavish historical drama features a scene-stealing performance from Law.

    Oscar winner Cillian Murphy(Oppenheimer) delivers another outstanding performance in Tim Mielants’ piercing drama based on Claire Keegan’s best-selling novella, fully channelling the quiet tension and live emotion of her prose.
