Helping Hands from The Comm
K&DCC is currently taking part in a pilot project to recruit volunteers who can, on an ad hoc basis, support people in the community who need help on a short-term basis due to illness or injury, such as recovering from surgery or having a broken limb.
An Informal volunteering Officer, Louise Home, has been appointed to co-ordinate the project, and has a target to appoint 70 volunteers by the beginning of next year. Volunteering is always on the basis of mutually agreed activity and support, and might involve such things as –
- Shopping (via Knighton and District Community Support)
- Prescription collecting (via Knighton and District Community Support)
- Posting a letter
- Dog walking
- Delivering/collecting library books
- Covering a volunteer duty in an emergency
- Driving a client to an event at Knighton and District Community Centre ie Flix at The Comm, Women’s Hour, Thursday lunch drop-in.
- Short-term gardening help
- Putting out recycling/bins
Anyone interested in volunteering can either come to the Volunteer Drop-in session held at Knighton Community Centre on a Tuesday morning, between 10am – 12 noon, or if you know someone who needs help or you want to find out more about volunteering, please contact Louise on 07848 021282.
