This Saturday, April 12th, Knighton Community Market celebrates Easter with a host of special attractions to appeal to the whole family. Having been so popular on several previous occasions the childrens craft workshop will be held in the Reynolds Room, where the kids are invited to come along and spend the morning having all kinds of Easter themed fun, including making bonnets, which can be entered in the Easter bonnet competition. Bonnets made at home can also be brought along for the competition.
At the same time knitting enthusiasts are invited to a “knit-in” in the main hall as part of the national anti-Trident “Wool Against Weapons” campaign, aiming to create a Knighton Peace Scarf to be laid out from the Clock Tower to the Cenotaph in Knighton on July 5th and then joined with other scarves being created across Britain to form one 7 miles long to join the nuclear missile factories at Aldermaston and Burghfield in a major demonstration on August 9th.
If knitting is not your thing, you may be more interested in the “Upcycling Stall”, which will showcase creative upcycling of all kinds from the weird and wacky to the beautiful. Items on display will include recycled glass from the local social enterprise “10 Green Bottles”, lampshades incorporating cassette tape, bowls made from vinyl LPs, containers crafted from floppy discs and flowers crafted from cans and bottle tops.
Other attractions will include a lucky dip and raffle and in the ever-popular cafe area, live music will be provided by highly-rated local folk group Rapsquillion, with their own brand of close harmony singing. The group, who regularly perform their varied repertoire across the West Midlands, will on this occasion be donating all money raised to Amnesty International.
All this plus a lucky dip, raffle and all the regular food and craft stalls should guarantee a lively and worthwhile morning of shopping and fun at Knighton Community Centre, kicking off at 9.30 and finishing at 1.00pm.
