About the opportunity
Position Title: Information and Signposting Volunteer
Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays 9.30 – 1pm weekly or fortnightly
Location: Knighton & District Community Centre (K&DCC)
Accountable to: K&DCC Hub Coordinator
Main purpose of the role:
- To support staff in the development & provision of comprehensive information, signposting and advisory service to Knighton residents
- To support the running of information hubs which offers information, signposting and support via telephone, web, emails, video conferencing and walk-in’s information/advice clinics
- To assist with the development of a legacy arrangement which will maintain local database registers and the signposting and advisory service
Principle Responsibilities
- To familiarise yourself with K&DCC volunteer policies and other volunteer documentation (located on K&DCC website – volunteer section/paper copies available)
- To read & sign the volunteer agreement
- To attend a volunteer induction
- To attend bi-monthly volunteer supervision group (not mandatory)
- Supporting isolated and vulnerable customers in the Tuesday Cafe & Drop-in service
- Supporting the Hub Coordinator and Information and Signposting worker within the Advice from the Hub Drop-in sessions
- Supporting customers with form-filling tasks
- Maintaining & updating social media forums
- Supporting customers in sourcing information either digitally or paper copies via the Library
- Promoting community activities to customers
- Signposting / Referring customers to external organisations/professionals in a timely manner
- With supervision and support liaison with external organisations and professionals
- To follow and adhere to K&DCC code of conduct and confidentiality policy
- To abide by the principles and practices of equal opportunity as cited in the K&DCC Equal Opportunity Policy
- Due to the nature of the work involved with children, young people and vulnerable adults, the role you are applying for is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013). This post has a requirement for a standard DBS
- Attendance of any training as per induction program
- To attend any training identified during supervision

- Volunteers who understand and adhere to the need to ensure customers’ information is kept private and confidential
- Volunteers who have a special interest in working within a social care/guidance and information setting
- Volunteers who are reliable & responsible
- Volunteers who will have the ability to cope with the duties and responsibilities of the role and the associated environment, including an understanding of health and safety.
- Volunteers who have a good understanding of computer technology, social media, video conferencing and the internet
